Things to
Consider Doing When Staying in a Folly Beach Rental on
Vacation:
- If you don't yet have a place to
stay choose and reserve your
Folly Beach rentals on our sister website,
www.FollyBeachSCVacationRentals.com
- Book a beach bike rental before
arriving. You can get anywhere on the island
in reasonable time on a bike. Beach bikes have
special tires designed to ride on sand. Sand
is everywhere on Folly, not just on the beach.
- Reserve a spot on a guided kayak
tour.
From a kayak, you can see things and go places
around Folly Beach you can't get to any other way.
- If
kayaking is too much physical exertion, take a
chartered boat tour instead.
- Make arrangements to visit a
local hangout or restaurant. This way you can get a feel of
the real Folly Beach experience and avoid touristy hangouts.
-
Look up Folly Beach before you
actually plan to visit and make a list of things you and
your family would want to see and do (You can do this right
now by clicking on our
Life on Folly Beach page). This can set you on a pace to
make the most of your time spent at Folly Beach.
- Visit
a historical place or
landmark. It is always cool to be able to say "I was there"
when reading a history book, either by yourself or with your
child. We are all naturally a part of history, but actually
seeing something so ancient can be a fulfilling experience.
Visiting the Morris Lighthouse might be a consideration when
looking to view something historical on Folly Beach.
- Try some Southern Cuisine. If
there is one thing us Southerners know, its good cookin!
There are almost no chain restaurants on Folly
Beach. No matter where you eat on Folly, you
are guaranteed to sample local cuisine!
- Folly Beach is the closest beach
to Historic Charleston, so if you have time, plan a trip to
downtown Charleston to visit other historical landmarks and
places. There are many shops and markets to buy little
souvenirs and trinkets. Inside the market place you can also
view South Carolina natives practicing the art of
grass-basket weaving, a past-time that's part of
Charleston's history. There are many other restaurants and
things to do in Charleston as well.

Common Things Folly Beach
Vacationers Forget When Packing:
- In
addition to your credit card, bring plenty of cash.
Many of the more interesting places on Folly Beach
only accept cash. You probably won't need
travelers checks, Folly Beach has almost no crime.
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Swimming necessities like a
swimsuit, glasses, hat. Don't worry about sunscreen, you
can get a small bottle after you get here. You
can use it all and throw it away before you leave.
- Umbrella (sometimes the weather in SC can be
unpredictable and it can rain on your parade).
- Beach toys: like a Frisbee
or beach ball.
- A book (to occupy yourself
during the flight or for plan B during unexpected bad
weather).
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Band aids (who knows when
you might get a boo boo)
- Workout clothes (maybe you
want to enjoy a run along the shore)
- Q-tips (always good to
remove sand out of one's ears).
- Anti-acid, motion sickness
medicine or upset stomach medication
- Maps and directions
- Extra clothes for unexpected
weather.
- Bug repellent (two words:
pesky mosquitoes)
- Earplugs--if you are
traveling with infants and children by airplane.
Children usually cry due to their ears popping and the
discomfort of the plane.
- Waterproof disposable camera (you will
be content looking at your vacation photos, grateful you
had nothing to worry about when your child
'accidentally' dropped the camera in the water)
- Leave some empty
space in you luggage to bring home laundry, gifts
and fun things you may buy while visiting Folly
Beach.

The Vacation
Budget Planner
Here is an overview
guide to help you plan and stick to your vacation
budget. We are developing a more interactive
version. Click here (coming soon) for a printable
version that you can fill out and carry with you to your
Folly Beach Rental.
Here is the concept.
Gather all known prepaid expenses or reservations and
add them together. These may include vacation home
rental, guided tours, bike rentals, boat charters,
parasailing, jet ski rentals, kayak rentals, etc.
You should call ahead and reserve these items before
coming to Folly Beach. Once this amount is
determined and reservations are made, this number should
not change.
Next make an estimate for
gas, supplies and food you will need to buy while at
Folly Beach. These are items that may vary in
cost. It would be wise to give yourself a little
extra just in case. And keep close track of these
expenses while at Folly Beach.
Finally, decide on a
reasonable amount to spend on souvenirs, luxuries or
spur of the moment purchases like drinks or ice cream.
You may want to use a credit card for these extras.
But remember, Folly Beach is no big city and a lot of
places take cash only. There is a cash machine at
the BP station and Bert's Market, both on Center Street.
There are no banks in Folly Beach, but you can find
several up the road in James Island. |
We at eProperties of Folly Beach
wish you a great vacation!!
